Attaullah Tarar said Pakistan’s stance on the Indus Waters Treaty has gained global support, reinforcing its legal position.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said Pakistan’s stance on the Indus Waters Treaty has been recognised globally, further strengthening the country’s legal position on the international stage.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad alongside Federal Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik, Atta Tarar said the Indus Waters Treaty cannot be suspended unilaterally, as it is an internationally recognized agreement between Pakistan and India.

He said the prime minister and Field Marshal have consistently emphasized that water is a matter of national survival for Pakistan and no compromise will be made on national interests.

Tarar said Pakistan is hosting an international seminar on the Indus Waters Treaty for the first time, with water resource experts from around the world participating.

He added that the seminar has further strengthened Pakistan’s position globally and enhanced international recognition of the country’s narrative regarding the treaty.

Speaking on the occasion, Musadik Malik said Pakistan has effectively raised the Indus Waters Treaty issue at the international level and will not compromise on its share of water.

He said Pakistan has previously faced devastating floods, while the country’s economy and the livelihoods of millions depend on agriculture, which relies heavily on water resources. Criticising Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Musadik Malik alleged that India seeks to use water as a tool of pressure against Pakistan, adding that Pakistan will take every possible step to safeguard its water rights.

He reiterated that Pakistan will continue to stand for justice and protect its national interests at every level.

The minister further said the second day of the ongoing international conference will feature a full session on justice and rights, focusing on water rights and international legal aspects.
