Severe weather disrupts London flights, leaving thousands of passengers stranded

Updated on:

Severe weather has delayed more than 900 flights at Heathrow and Gatwick airports, with dozens of cancellations leaving thousands of passengers stranded in London.

LONDON (Dunya News) - Thousands of air passengers faced significant travel disruption as severe weather caused widespread delays and flight cancellations at London's major airports over the weekend.

According to international media reports, heavy rainfall following an intense heatwave led to operational disruptions across the UK's aviation network. Hundreds of flights were delayed, while dozens were cancelled, leaving thousands of travellers stranded.

More than 900 arriving and departing flights at Heathrow and Gatwick airports experienced delays on Saturday, the reports said, affecting both domestic and international travellers.

Heathrow Airport's departure board also showed multiple cancellations on flights to several European destinations as airlines struggled to maintain schedules amid adverse weather conditions.

Airport authorities have advised passengers travelling through Heathrow and Gatwick to check the status of their flights with their respective airlines before leaving for the airport to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.

The UK's Air Traffic Control Service warned that flight disruptions could continue into Sunday as weather-related operational challenges persist.

Airlines and airport operators are monitoring the situation closely, while passengers are being urged to allow extra time for travel and stay updated on any schedule changes.
