Three Sindh Rangers personnel martyred, four wounded in Khawarij attack on Karachi camp

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Pakistan's security forces foiled a militant attack on a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) camp in Karachi, killing three attackers during the ensuing operation, while three Rangers personnel were martyred and four others injured, the military said on Saturday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), militants belonging to Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, an India-backed proxy group, attacked the Rangers camp on Saturday night after detonating explosives at the main entrance in an attempt to breach the facility's security perimeter.

Rangers personnel responded swiftly, preventing the attackers from entering the camp. During the exchange of fire, three militants were killed, while one injured Afghan national suspected of involvement in the attack was arrested.

The military said three Rangers personnel were martyred in the line of duty and four others sustained injuries while repelling the assault.

ISPR said a clearance operation is continuing in the surrounding area to ensure no other militants remain at large. It added that Pakistan's counterterrorism campaign under the *Azm-e-Istehkam* strategy will continue with full force and that those responsible for the attack will be brought to justice.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the Rangers for thwarting what he described as the designs of India-backed militants, saying the force had once again demonstrated exceptional professionalism, courage and dedication.

"The nation stands shoulder to shoulder with its armed forces, Rangers and law enforcement agencies," the prime minister said, adding that Pakistan's fight against terrorism would continue until the threat is completely eradicated.

Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen personnel and paid tribute to their sacrifice.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the attack, describing the slain Rangers personnel as national heroes. He said their sacrifice would strengthen the country's resolve to eliminate terrorism and would be remembered with honor.

Militant attacks in Pakistan's major cities have become relatively uncommon in recent years, but a rise in violence along the Afghan border has renewed fears that insurgents could again target urban centres.

The assault marked Karachi's most significant militant attack since October 2024, when a suicide bombing targeting a convoy carrying Chinese nationals killed two Chinese citizens.
