ISLAMABAD (APP) – The National Assembly on Sunday offered Fateha for former prime minister and Pakistan People’s Party leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto on her 73rd birth anniversary, paying tribute to her contributions to democracy and public service.
Speaking in the House, PPP Parliamentarians lawmaker Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani paid tribute to Benazir Bhutto, describing her as a symbol of democracy, women’s empowerment and political courage.
He recalled that Benazir Bhutto served as prime minister twice and consistently advocated democratic values throughout her political career.
The lawmaker said she sacrificed her life for democracy and remained committed to democratic principles until her martyrdom.
He said her contributions to Pakistan, South Asia and the wider world were significant, adding that her loss was not only for Pakistan but for the entire region.
Jakhrani said Benazir Bhutto was the first woman prime minister of Pakistan and the first woman to lead a government in the Muslim world. He said she always promoted women’s rights, social development and democratic governance.
He said Benazir Bhutto also played a role in strengthening Pakistan’s defence capabilities.
He said missile technology introduced during her tenure helped enhance the country’s response to external threats.
He said Benazir Bhutto continues to live in the hearts of the people and will always be remembered for her sacrifices and services to the nation.
At the request of Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Hafiz Mian Muhammad Numan offered Fateha and prayed for the elevation of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s ranks in Jannah.
