KARACHI (Dunya News) – Intercity transport fares have been reduced across Pakistan following a decline in petroleum product prices, with new charges announced for several major routes.
Transport authorities have revised ticket prices for destinations including Karachi, Hyderabad, Multan, Abbottabad and Dera Ismail Khan, reducing the cost burden on passengers. The updated fares have been introduced as part of efforts to transfer the impact of lower fuel prices directly to commuters.
According to an official notification, the fare for travel to Karachi has been reduced from Rs5,060 to Rs4,150, marking a decrease of Rs910. The fare for Hyderabad has also been revised from Rs4,720 to Rs3,870, bringing a reduction of Rs850 for passengers travelling on the route.
The fare changes follow a reduction in petroleum product prices, with transport operators directed to implement the revised rates across different routes.
Several other cities have also seen reductions in transport charges. The fare for Rahim Yar Khan has dropped from Rs2,230 to Rs1,830, while passengers travelling to Multan will now pay Rs1,520 instead of the previous Rs1,850.
The new notification stated that fares for smaller routes have also been revised. Travel costs for Pakpattan have been reduced from Rs1,300 to Rs1,070, while the fare for Haveli Lakha has fallen from Rs1,330 to Rs1,090.
The fare reduction also includes routes towards northern and western parts of the country. The ticket price for Abbottabad has been brought down from Rs3,550 to Rs2,400, while the fare for Dera Ismail Khan has decreased from Rs3,450 to Rs3,350.
Officials said measures were being taken to ensure that the benefit of lower petroleum prices reached passengers directly. Transport operators have been instructed to follow the newly announced rates and ensure compliance on all affected routes.
The revised fares are expected to apply across services operating on the listed routes, with authorities monitoring implementation to prevent passengers from being charged above the updated prices.
