Dar censures India for politicising water by violating Indus Waters Treaty

Ishaq Dar says India is violating Indus Waters Treaty, warning against weaponising water and stresses international law compliance.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that India is engaging in water politics by violating the Indus Waters Treaty.

In a statement issued from the federal capital, Ishaq Dar said India had unlawfully suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and was using water as a weapon.

He emphasized that the treaty clearly provides a framework for the peaceful resolution of disputes and that its implementation is India’s responsibility under international law.

The Deputy Prime Minister said Pakistan remains committed to adhering to the UN Charter and supports rule-based international conduct.

He added that global laws must be followed in water-related matters, warning that deviation from peaceful coexistence policies could have serious consequences.
