Punjab cabinet approves Rs5.903 trillion budget for FY2026-27

Punjab Finance Minister briefed members on the key features of the budget and proposed allocations for the upcoming fiscal year

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has approved the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, with a total outlay of Rs5.903 trillion.

During the cabinet meeting, Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman briefed members on the key features of the budget and proposed allocations for the upcoming fiscal year.

According to the proposals, Rs752 billion has been earmarked for the provincial development budget to support infrastructure, public services and other development projects across Punjab.

The budget also includes a proposed 7 percent increase in salaries and pensions for provincial government employees and retirees.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, the Chairman of the Planning and Development Board, the Finance Secretary and other senior government officials, who reviewed and endorsed the budgetary proposals ahead of their presentation in the Punjab Assembly.

The budget is expected to outline the provincial government's spending priorities for the coming year, with a focus on development initiatives, public welfare and administrative expenditures.
