Islamabad deploys over 15,000 security personnel for Muharram processions and gatherings, with surveillance, control rooms, and strict monitoring to ensure peace and safety.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Authorities have deployed more than 15,000 security personnel in the federal capital to ensure peace and security during Muharram processions and religious gatherings, according to an official security plan.

Islamabad Police has finalised a comprehensive security strategy covering the period from the 1st of Muharram to 19th of Safar, aimed at maintaining law and order throughout religious observances in the city.

Under the plan, personnel from Islamabad Police, Rangers, and other law enforcement agencies will jointly perform duties across sensitive routes and venues. Officials said the deployment is designed to ensure maximum protection for participants in religious events while maintaining smooth civic order.

Police officials stated that a total of 177 processions and 929 religious gatherings (majalis) are expected to be held across the capital during the holy month. To monitor these events effectively, a dedicated control room has been established at the Safe City Headquarters.

Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, is personally overseeing all security arrangements to ensure strict implementation of the plan. In addition, 10 vigilance teams have been formed to check the performance and deployment of security personnel on duty.

Senior officers including Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), and Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) have been assigned duties at various locations across the city to supervise arrangements on the ground.

Authorities have also intensified search and combing operations in different areas of Islamabad as part of preventive security measures. Officials said these operations are aimed at identifying and addressing any potential threats in advance.

To strengthen surveillance, more than 3,000 CCTV cameras and drones are being used to monitor processions and gatherings in real time. Additionally, over 500 traffic police personnel have been deployed to manage traffic flow and minimise disruptions to daily commuting.

Officials said the coordinated security plan reflects a multi-layered approach involving monitoring, rapid response, and community facilitation. They added that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a peaceful environment for citizens during Muharram.

Islamabad Police reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace during the religious month through strict enforcement and continuous monitoring.
