Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets today to sight the Muharram 1448 moon, while SUPARCO says chances of visibility are low and expects 1 Muharram on June 17

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet today to sight the moon of the new Islamic year, Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 Hijri. The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad at Iqbal Hall of the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, where testimonies regarding the moon sighting received from across the country will be reviewed.

At the same time, the Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Islamabad will hold its meeting at the Kohsar Block in Islamabad, while meetings of zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also take place simultaneously in different cities across the country.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final announcement regarding the sighting of the Muharram-ul-Haram moon after examining reports received from different parts of the country and the findings of the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

According to SUPARCO, astronomical data suggests that the chances of sighting the Muharram-ul-Haram moon on the evening of June 15, 2026, are extremely low. It is expected that the first day of Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 Hijri will fall on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
