PML-N to sit in opposition in Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, PPP invited to form government

PML-N decides opposition role in Gilgit-Baltistan, invites PPP to form government; both parties agree on power-sharing arrangement.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will sit in opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly and has formally invited the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to form the government.

In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the PPP had emerged as the majority party in Gilgit-Baltistan and deserved the opportunity to form the government. He added that PML-N lawmakers would support PPP in the government formation process.

The prime minister said the decision was made in line with democratic traditions and values, stressing that his party had always maintained respectful relations with its coalition partners.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari welcomed the prime minister’s statement and thanked him for the invitation to form the government in Gilgit-Baltistan.

He said acknowledging PPP’s majority in the region reflected the continuation of democratic norms. Bilawal added that, as part of the understanding, the offices of governor and deputy speaker in Gilgit-Baltistan would be held by PML-N.

He further said that PPP would utilize all its resources to serve the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
