MQM delegation meets PM, agrees on Rs25 billion development package for Karachi, Hyderabad

Prime Minister agreed in principle to a development package worth Rs20 billion for Karachi and Rs5 billion for Hyderabad

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has agreed to a Rs 25 billion development package for Karachi and Hyderabad following a key meeting with a delegation from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).

The MQM-P delegation included Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Dr Farooq Sattar, Mustafa Kamal, Amin-ul-Haque and Javed Hanif, while Federal Ministers Ishaq Dar, Rana Sanaullah, Ahsan Iqbal, Azam Nazeer Tarar and Attaullah Tarar were also present during the meeting.

According to sources, the MQM delegation presented budget proposals, discussed the proposed constitutional amendment related to local governments, and raised concerns regarding the role of the governor in Sindh.

The sources further said that the Prime Minister agreed in principle to a development package worth Rs20 billion for Karachi and Rs5 billion for Hyderabad, totaling Rs25 billion.

It was also agreed that the federal government would engage with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in consultation with MQM over the proposed constitutional amendment.

The Prime Minister reportedly stated that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supports MQM’s proposed constitutional amendment, sources added.
