ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The National Economic Council (NEC) met in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and approved the national development budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
According to sources, the meeting approved the federal and provincial development budgets and conducted a detailed review of the development budget for the fiscal year 2025-26. Briefings and presentations were also given on the Annual Development Programmes (ADPs) of the provinces.
The council also reviewed the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) for the fiscal year 2026-27, while the ongoing public sector investment initiatives for the current fiscal year also came under discussion.

Sources said that the meeting was presented with a progress report of the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) covering the period from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. A report on projects approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) during the same period was also reviewed.
The meeting also approved the monitoring and evaluation report of mega development projects. The chief ministers of all four provinces, the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir and other key government figures attended the session.
Before the meeting, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi, Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal and Rana Sanaullah arrived at the Prime Minister House to attend the session. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Maryam Aurangzeb and the Chief Minister of Balochistan also participated in the meeting.
