(Web Desk) - A US court has sentenced a Taliban commander to 42 years in prison for his role in the kidnapping of American journalist David Rohde.
The court in New York found the 50-year-old Haji Najibullah guilty of terrorism-related charges, including providing material support to terrorism and hostage-taking.
Prosecutors said Najibullah was involved in the abduction of David Rohde and two of his colleagues in 2008, who were held hostage for around seven months in Afghanistan.
He was also accused of participating in attacks on US military convoys during the conflict in Afghanistan.
Najibullah’s sentencing marks one of the significant legal actions in cases linked to hostage-taking and insurgent activity involving militant groups in the region.
The case is connected to the broader conflict involving the Taliban movement in Afghanistan, during which multiple foreign journalists and aid workers were kidnapped.
