(Web Desk) - Amid a fresh escalation in hostilities between the United States and Iran, Pakistan has called on all parties to exercise restraint and give diplomacy another opportunity to succeed.
Speaking at a United Nations Security Council session on Tuesday, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, urged involved sides to “give peace a little more chance” as tensions intensify in the region.
“As we work earnestly and painstakingly, together with our friends and partners, to find a peaceful diplomatic solution to the conflict… we sincerely urge all sides to exercise restraint,” he said.
The statement comes amid renewed clashes between the United States and Iran, following reported military strikes and retaliatory attacks targeting regional sites. The escalation has raised concerns over the stability of an already fragile ceasefire arrangement in the Middle East.
Ambassador Ahmad warned that recent developments highlight the ‘fragility of the situation’ and the growing risk of wider escalation if diplomatic efforts fail.
He added that the breakdown in dialogue has also complicated discussions on the Iran nuclear issue, disrupting international verification efforts led by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“The cycle of violence and instability must end for the good of regional and international peace, security and prosperity,” he said, stressing the need for urgent diplomatic engagement.
