NEW DELHI (Web Desk) - A newly married woman in India has sought a divorce after her husband reportedly took his parents and siblings along on their honeymoon, turning what was meant to be a private getaway into a family trip.
According to Indian media reports, the marriage was arranged through a matrimonial website between a woman from Uttar Pradesh and a man from New Delhi's Patel Nagar area.
The dispute arose shortly after the wedding when the husband took his wife on a honeymoon but also included several family members in the trip. The situation reportedly led to growing tensions between the couple.
The wife later told counsellors that a honeymoon is intended to help newlyweds strengthen their relationship, but the constant presence of family members prevented her from spending meaningful time with her husband.
The husband, however, defended his decision, saying he wanted everyone to enjoy the trip and did not believe there was anything inappropriate about travelling with his parents and siblings.
Media reports said the disagreement escalated to the point where the woman demanded a divorce, prompting authorities to refer the couple to a counselling centre.
The couple has already attended three counselling sessions, but both sides have so far remained unwilling to reconcile. Counsellors recently conducted another session and granted them additional time to consider their future before making a final decision.
