Iran's Ghalibaf accuses US of undermining ceasefire efforts

Updated on:

He said the comments indicated that Washington was neither seeking a genuine ceasefire nor meaningful dialogue

TEHRAN (Dunya News) - Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Monday that Tehran would turn the naval blockade into "another defeat for the enemy," according to a message posted on his Telegram channel.

Ghalibaf criticised recent remarks by US President Donald Trump regarding the memorandum of understanding (MoU), arguing that the statements contradicted key aspects of the agreement reached between the two sides.

He said the comments indicated that Washington was neither seeking a genuine ceasefire nor meaningful dialogue.

According to Ghalibaf, the contrast between ceasefire commitments on paper and their repeated violations on the ground has exposed contradictions in the current situation and further deepened mistrust between the parties.

While reiterating that Iran's objective remains ending the conflict and achieving lasting regional security, Ghalibaf stressed that Tehran has little confidence in the opposing side.

He maintained that Iran's response would continue in its current form until there is clear evidence of genuine intent and serious efforts to build trust.

The Iranian official added that the widening gap between ceasefire agreements and realities on the ground is contributing to rising regional tensions.

He emphasized that achieving sustainable peace and stability requires all parties to uphold their commitments and take practical confidence-building measures.
