Budget 2026-27 faces possible delay as NEC meeting postponed

NEC meeting scheduled for June 8 has been postponed and may now be held Tuesday. It was set to approve 2026–27 development budget ahead of June 10 federal budget presentation

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), scheduled for today (June 8), has been postponed.

Sources said the NEC session is no longer included in the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official schedule, and it is now likely to take place on Tuesday instead.

The meeting was originally set to be held at 3 pm under the chairmanship of PM Shehbaz, with chief ministers of all provinces expected to attend.

The session was expected to approve the national development budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2026–27, along with a review of the current fiscal year’s development spending.

Agenda items also included presentations on provincial annual development plans and approval of key economic targets for the next fiscal year.

The annual federal budget for 2026–27 is expected to be presented on June 10.
