ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The government is expected to introduce new taxation measures in the upcoming budget, including making it mandatory to print retail prices on several essential consumer goods to improve sales tax collection.
According to FBR sources, a decision has been made to require printed retail prices on products such as tea leaves, powdered milk and vegetable ghee. Infant formula milk, ketchup and cooking oil will also be included under the mandatory pricing requirement.
Dozens of commonly used household items are likely to be added to the Third Schedule as part of the proposed budgetary measures aimed at strengthening the tax collection system.
The budget is also expected to propose a doubling of the Climate Support Levy on petroleum products from July 1. Under the proposal, the levy may be increased from Rs2.5 per litre to Rs5 per litre.
More than Rs90 billion is projected to be collected under the Climate Support Levy during the next fiscal year.
For the fiscal year 2027 budget, the government is also likely to withdraw tax exemptions currently available for the former tribal areas as part of its broader revenue strategy.
