ISLAMABAD (APP) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday said the government was committed to placing environmental protection at the centre of its policy priorities, highlighting the constitutional recognition of the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment as a fundamental right of every citizen.
In his message on World Environment Day, the deputy prime minister said Pakistan was advancing climate-resilient housing, accelerating the transition to clean energy and promoting environmentally responsible and sustainable construction practices to address growing environmental challenges.
He said Pakistan joined the international community in observing World Environment Day and reaffirming the urgent need to protect the planet and strengthen collective efforts to combat climate change.
DPM/FM Ishaq Dar noted that despite being among the countries most vulnerable to climate change, Pakistan continued to demonstrate resilience in the face of recurring floods, accelerating glacial melt, droughts, heatwaves and increasing water stress.
He stressed the need to sustain and deepen international cooperation to address the interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation, guided by the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.
The deputy prime minister said the scale of the climate challenge underscored the importance of collective global action and enhanced international collaboration.
He also expressed appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan for hosting this year’s World Environment Day, and commended its leadership in promoting international cooperation and constructive dialogue on critical environmental issues.
