TEHRAN (Dunya News) – Iran and Russia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth $25 billion to expand cooperation in the nuclear energy sector, marking a significant step in strengthening strategic ties between the two countries.

According to Iranian officials, the agreement aims to enhance Iran’s nuclear infrastructure through joint projects with Russia’s state nuclear corporation. The deal is expected to deepen collaboration in peaceful nuclear energy development and broaden long-term energy cooperation.

Speaking at an online conference held in Moscow, Iranian Ambassador Kazem Jalali highlighted key joint initiatives, including the expansion of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. He noted that the facility is already operational, while additional units are currently under construction.

He also described the “Hormoz Project” as Iran’s largest nuclear initiative, valued at around $25 billion. The project is being developed with participation from Iran’s private sector and Russia’s state nuclear energy company, focusing on expanding nuclear capacity for peaceful energy production.

The ambassador highlighted ongoing discussions on small-scale nuclear power plants, expressing hope that these initiatives will soon move into implementation phases.

Beyond nuclear cooperation, he pointed to growing collaboration between Tehran and Moscow in areas such as energy transit, including the transfer of Russian gas through Iran, as well as expanded trade with Eurasian countries.

Kazem Jalali also thanked Russia for its political support in international forums and emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy, transport, advanced technologies, and broader economic development.
