WASHINGTON (Web Desk) - Billionaire entrepreneur and X owner Elon Musk has sparked widespread discussion on social media after praising Pakistan’s judicial system following a major court ruling in the high-profile motorway gang-rape case.

Musk reacted to the decision of the Lahore High Court, which upheld the death sentences of two men convicted in the 2020 motorway gang-rape case and dismissed their appeals against the verdict issued by an anti-terrorism court.

Posting on X, Musk applauded the outcome and suggested that Western countries should adopt a similar approach to serious crimes.

“Bravo, Pakistan! This is what we should be doing in the West,” he wrote, drawing significant attention from users across the globe.

The remarks came shortly after a two-member bench of the Lahore High Court, comprising Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Justice Tariq Mahmood Bajwa, announced its verdict.

The court maintained the death sentences awarded to convicts Abid Malhi and Shafqat Baga and upheld all other punishments imposed by the trial court.

During the appeal proceedings, defence lawyers argued that the original trial had failed to properly assess the facts and requested the court to overturn the convictions.

Prosecutors, however, maintained that substantial evidence linked both men to the crime and urged the court to reject the appeals.

The case has remained one of Pakistan’s most closely watched criminal trials since the incident occurred near Lahore in September 2020.

Authorities launched an extensive investigation that included DNA evidence and digital records, leading to the arrest and conviction of the accused.

Punjab Prosecutor General Farhad Ali Shah welcomed the court’s decision, describing it as the result of years of effort by investigators and prosecutors.

He said the state had faced significant challenges in bringing the case to its conclusion.
