Government decides to convene budget session on June 10 as summary reaches Presidency

Updated on:

The federal government plans to convene Pakistan’s budget session on June 10 after revising earlier dates, with cabinet approval expected before presentation.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government has decided to convene the budget session for fiscal year 2026–27 on June 10, with the summary for summoning the session now received by the Presidency.

According to official sources, the summary for the budget session had earlier been forwarded to the President by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. The development comes as preparations for the upcoming federal budget enter their final stages.

A major breakthrough was also reported during a consultative meeting held between the government and Asif Ali Zardari’s coalition partner, Pakistan Peoples Party, with both sides agreeing to increase the size of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

Sources said the proposed size of the PSDP is expected to be increased by nearly Rs200 billion as part of broader development spending plans.

Ahead of the budget session of the National Assembly, a meeting of the federal cabinet is also expected to take place. The special cabinet session will reportedly be held at Parliament House, where ministers will receive a briefing on the proposed budget.

Following cabinet approval, budget documents will formally be presented before the assembly.

Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari had approved convening the budget session on June 5, but authorities later revised the schedule and decided to change the date.

The upcoming budget is being closely watched amid expectations of new fiscal measures, development spending adjustments, and economic reforms.
