DERA ISMAIL KHAN (Web Desk) – A major scandal involving alleged fake degrees and financial irregularities has surfaced at Gomal University, with investigations widening after authorities identified hundreds of suspicious academic credentials.

Officials revealed that scrutiny intensified following the discovery of 514 suspicious degrees, exposing alleged irregularities that reportedly remained undetected for years before being uncovered by the current administration.

As part of the ongoing inquiry, key officials linked to the alleged fake degree scandal have been suspended, while further disciplinary action is expected in the coming days.

Investigations have also highlighted alleged financial mismanagement and irregularities dating back to the period between 2019 and 2023. Following a decision by the university syndicate, the former Director of Affiliations has been suspended.

Action has also begun against the former Controller of Examinations as authorities continue reviewing official records. Hundreds of degrees have reportedly been categorised as suspicious, with recommendations submitted for their cancellation.

A new investigation committee has been established to accelerate accountability efforts at the university, while provincial authorities have tightened oversight of higher education institutions.

Provincial Higher Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi stated that those involved in the scandal would not escape accountability and pledged to eliminate corruption and fake degree networks from the higher education sector.

The minister added that accountability measures under the leadership of Chief Minister Sohel Afridi would continue, warning that individuals jeopardising students’ futures would face strict action.
