Pakistan secured one gold and one silver medal at the U17 Asian Beach Wrestling Championship in Vietnam, marking a strong performance on the continental stage.

HANOI (Dunya News) – Pakistani wrestlers delivered an impressive performance at the Under-17 Asian Beach Wrestling Championship 2026 held in Vietnam, securing one gold and one silver medal and bringing pride to the country on the international stage.

In the 90kg category, Pakistan’s Muhammad Usman Laghari emerged as the standout performer of the event, clinching the gold medal and earning the title of Asian champion. He remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, showcasing dominance and technical skill against strong opponents from across Asia.

Laghari began his campaign with a victory over a local Vietnamese wrestler, setting the tone for his successful run. He then went on to defeat competitors from Mongolia and China in the early rounds, displaying consistency and control in each bout.

His strong form continued in the semi-final where he overcame a tough opponent from Kazakhstan to secure a place in the final. In the championship match, Laghari once again faced a Vietnamese wrestler and produced a commanding performance to secure the gold medal for Pakistan.

In another strong showing for Pakistan, Hassan Ali Bhola competed in the 70kg category and earned a silver medal after an excellent run to the final. He recorded multiple victories during the competition, defeating two wrestlers from Jordan, one from Saudi Arabia, and two from Vietnam.

Bhola’s performance in the semi-final was particularly notable, where he defeated a strong Chinese wrestler to book his place in the final. However, despite a competitive effort in the decisive match, he fell short and had to settle for the silver medal.

Team officials praised the wrestlers for their outstanding performances, highlighting their dedication, discipline and hard training ahead of the championship. Coach Ghulam Farid credited the success to consistent preparation, teamwork and the athletes’ strong national spirit.

He added that the achievements reflect Pakistan’s growing potential in wrestling at the Asian level and serve as encouragement for young athletes across the country.

The victories have been widely appreciated within sporting circles, as Pakistan continues to strengthen its presence in international wrestling competitions.
