LAHORE (Web Desk) – The Punjab government has entered the final stage of preparations for its budget for the financial year 2026-27, with authorities finalising plans that place significant emphasis on development spending and public welfare initiatives.
According to government, the provincial government is preparing a budget estimated at close to Rs6 trillion, with a strong focus on expanding infrastructure, development projects and relief measures aimed at improving public services.
Officials said the upcoming budget is expected to prioritise both urban and rural areas, with special attention being given to development schemes, infrastructure expansion, digital transformation initiatives under Digital Punjab and programmes designed to provide relief to citizens.
Sources revealed that the Punjab government has initially prepared a development budget framework of around Rs1.45 trillion. However, officials indicated that the allocation could rise to nearly Rs1.5 trillion if provincial resources increase during the fiscal year.
Under the proposed development framework, approximately Rs980 billion is expected to be allocated for core development programmes, while another Rs320 billion could be reserved for additional development schemes.
Meanwhile, nearly Rs150 billion is likely to be earmarked for projects financed through foreign assistance, reflecting the province’s continued reliance on external funding for large-scale infrastructure and development initiatives.
The development-focused budget comes as provincial authorities attempt to balance economic pressures with growing demands for public investment, improved infrastructure and enhanced service delivery across Punjab.
The proposed allocations remain subject to final approval before the formal presentation of the provincial budget.
