Iran says no deal with US without tangible results

Updated on:

Ghalibaf stressed that any potential deal would only be considered if there is firm assurance that the rights of the Iranian people are fully protected.

TEHRAN (Web Desk) — Iran’s parliamentary speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said that Tehran will not accept any agreement with the United States unless it produces clear and measurable outcomes, according to state media reports cited by Al Jazeera.

Speaking during a virtual session of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Ghalibaf stressed that any potential deal would only be considered if there is firm assurance that the rights of the Iranian people are fully protected.

He said there is “no trust in the enemy’s words and promises,” adding that Iran’s stance is focused on securing “tangible results” before taking on any commitments in return.

Ghalibaf made these remarks after being sworn in as the re-elected speaker of parliament along with the assembly’s presidium. “We will not approve any agreement until we are certain that the rights of the Iranian people have been secured,” he was quoted as saying by ISNA.

Trump pushes for tougher terms in proposed deal

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has reportedly sought changes to a proposal aimed at ending the Middle East conflict, as negotiations over a final agreement continue, US media reported.

The New York Times said Trump’s revisions are intended to toughen the terms of the deal and have been sent back for reconsideration by Iran, according to officials familiar with the matter.

While the exact changes were not immediately clear, Axios reported that Trump wants to reinforce several key elements of the agreement, including provisions related to Iran’s nuclear material.

Iranian commander warns of stronger retaliation

Separately, a senior Iranian military commander has warned that any new act of aggression against Iran will be met with an even stronger response than before, according to Al Jazeera, citing Press TV.

Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, deputy army commander for coordination, said Iran would respond firmly to any violation of its territory.

He stated that “any aggression against the country’s territory will be met with a response even more forceful than before,” adding that Iran’s armed forces remain fully prepared to counter any hostile action.

Sayyari further emphasized that Iran’s military stands “firmly and resolutely” against any hostile moves or threats from adversaries.
