WASHINGTON (Dunya News) - US President Donald Trump on Friday announced the end of Iran's naval blockade, saying Tehran must agree never to possess a nuclear weapon or atomic bomb.

In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz should be fully reopened immediately without any toll tax to ensure uninterrupted global shipping.

The US president stated that if naval mines remain in the sea, they will be removed, adding that the United States has already destroyed several mines using advanced minesweeper technology.

He said Iran would immediately remove or destroy the remaining mines.

Trump added that ships previously halted due to the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz would now be allowed to pass through.

Commenting on Iran’s nuclear programme, Trump claimed that Iranian nuclear material was buried deep beneath collapsed mountains following a US B-2 bomber strike carried out 11 months ago, which he said destroyed enriched uranium facilities.

He further stated that the United States, along with China, possesses the technical capability to recover the buried nuclear material from the ground.

According to Trump, the operation would be conducted in cooperation and coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), after which the recovered nuclear material would be destroyed.

Trump also said he was holding a meeting in the Situation Room to make a final decision on the matter.
