KARACHI (Web Desk) - Two cargo vessels collided within the limits of Karachi Port, damaging one ship while container from the other fell into the sea.

According to port authorities, the incident occurred on Thursday evening when container vessel MV Popo, which was departing Karachi Port, collided with MV NIWA, a ship engaged in maintaining undersea cables.

As a result of the collision, the bow section of MV NIWA sustained damage, while at least one container from MV Popo fell into the sea.

Following the incident, pilots of the Karachi Port Trust took immediate action and safely shifted the affected vessel, MV NIWA, to Berth No. 5.

Officials said MV Popo is currently stationed at the outer anchorage area.

Port sources confirmed that the vessel responsible for the collision has been stopped within Pakistan’s maritime limits, while an important meeting chaired by the Chairman of Karachi Port Trust is underway to review the incident.

Authorities said an assessment of the damages caused to the affected vessel is being conducted, after which compensation will be sought from the owners of the responsible ship.

Officials also confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident.
