(Reuters) – Dallas firefighters combed through smoking rubble on Thursday after a gas explosion and five-alarm fire destroyed an apartment complex in Dallas' Oak Cliff neighborhood, according to local media.
ABC affiliate WFAA said were firefighters responding to reports of a gas leak in the area when an explosion occurred. Aerial footage from WFAA later showed smoke billowing from a large site of rubble.
Authorities said three people – two women and a child – were killed, while several others were injured, including one in critical but stable condition.
Crews continued search and recovery efforts as aerial footage showed firefighters dousing debris and heavy damage across the site.
The National Transportation Safety Board said on Thursday it is sending a team to investigate the cause of the natural gas-fueled blast.
