LAHORE (Web Desk) - Punjab Police have finalised a comprehensive security plan for Eidul Azha under which more than 45,000 police officers and personnel would perform duties across the province to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.
Security arrangements had been placed on high alert on the directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, said a spokesperson for Punjab Police on Tuesday.
Foolproof security would be provided to mosques, Imambargahs and Eid congregations throughout the province. A total of 45,000 police personnel would be deployed for security duties at 30,630 mosques and 907 Eid congregations at open places across Punjab, while 316 special teams of the Quick Response Force would also remain on duty.
For surveillance and checking purposes, 11,130 metal detectors, 327 walkthrough gates and 15,273 CCTV cameras would be utilised, the spokesperson added.
In Lahore alone, more than 11,000 officers and personnel would perform security duties at over 5,000 Eid congregations places.
Abdul Kareem ordered complete checking and clearance of mosques, Imambargahs and open Eid prayer venues before Eid prayers and directed deployment of additional force and plainclothes commandos at sensitive locations.
The IGP also ordered continuation of combing operations and enhanced cyber patrolling to curb hateful content on social media.
IGP Abdul Kareem further directed authorities to ensure continuous surveillance of security arrangements, cattle markets, bazaars and cleanliness conditions through Punjab Safe Cities Authority cameras.
He instructed police officers to strengthen vigilance operations and security arrangements at cattle markets to prevent incidents of cattle theft, robbery and fraud.
The IGP also ordered strict enforcement of the ban on display of weapons, aerial firing, one-wheeling and kite flying during Eid holidays.
IGP Abdul Kareem further directed officials to ensure safety checks of amusement rides in parks in coordination with the district administration and utilise all available resources for the convenience and protection of tourists visiting Murree and other tourist destinations during Eid holidays.
