TARBELA (Dunya News) – Chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority, Lieutenant General (Retd) Muhammad Saeed, accompanied by Indus River System Authority Chairman Amjad Saeed, visited Tarbela Dam on Monday to review progress on the Tarbela Fifth Extension Hydropower Project.
During the visit, officials briefed the delegation on construction activities and said coordinated efforts were underway to meet the project’s scheduled timelines. The project is expected to add 1,530 megawatts of electricity generation capacity to the national grid.
Authorities informed the delegation that the scheme is being financed with the support of the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
The Wapda chairman directed officials to ensure the project’s completion without further delay so that the country’s growing energy requirements could be met on time.
Muhammad Saeed also visited the Tarbela Fourth Extension Hydropower Project and witnessed the test commissioning of the low-level outlet.
Officials said the availability of the low-level outlet was vital for supplying water to provinces during the Kharif season in line with IRSA indent requirements.
They added that power generation from the Tarbela Fourth Extension Project had commenced in March 2018.
