Karachi authorities, assisted by police, carried out operations against illegal cattle markets across the city, arresting several people and registering cases

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Karachi administration, with the assistance of police, has launched operations against illegal cattle markets established in different parts of the city ahead of Eidul Azha, resulting in the arrest of several individuals.

According to a spokesperson for the Karachi Commissioner’s Office, cases have been registered against those detained during the operations as authorities intensified efforts to remove unauthorised livestock markets from roadsides and public areas.

The spokesperson said illegal cattle markets were severely affecting the city’s cleanliness system and causing traffic congestion in various neighbourhoods. Authorities have therefore imposed a ban on the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals on major roads and highways.

Officials added that deputy commissioners had submitted detailed reports to Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi regarding the growing number of illegal cattle markets operating across the city.

Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi stated that unauthorised cattle markets were disrupting sanitation arrangements and creating serious difficulties for commuters due to increased traffic pressure. He said the administration was committed to eliminating illegal markets in order to maintain public order, ensure cleanliness and ease traffic flow during the Eid season.

The administration has urged citizens to use only officially designated cattle markets for the buying and selling of sacrificial animals and warned that strict action would continue against violators.
