Cattle buying picks momentum as Eidul Azha nears

Buyers from major cities, including Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, and Multan, Peshawar, say they are actively participating in cattle markets

ISLAMABAD (APP) - With just a few days left for Eidul Azha, cattle markets across the country are witnessing brisk activity as traders and buyers engage in price negotiations for heavyweight and uniquely named sacrificial animals amid a festive atmosphere, while families and youngsters capture the colourful scenes through selfies and short videos.

Clips and visuals shared by youth on social media and news channels continue to highlight striking scenes from cattle markets nationwide, portraying them as active hubs of traditional price negotiation during peak Eidul Azha preparations, with heavy crowds, vibrant activity, and nonstop bargaining adding to the festive intensity.

Sellers complain that buyers are offering lower prices despite rising costs, adding that the prices do not match the expenses of maintaining animals, including rent of pens, transportation, and high-quality feed.

They argue that significant investment is required to raise healthy, heavy-weight livestock, but the bargaining pressure often forces them to accept reduced margins.

Customers, however, argue that sellers are demanding excessively high prices, claiming that the rates are often beyond reasonable limits despite open market competition.

Buyers from major cities, including Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, and Multan, Peshawar, say they are actively participating in cattle markets and insist on fair traditional price negotiations based on animal quality and weight.

They maintain that while they respect the effort and cost involved in raising livestock, prices should remain balanced and affordable, leading to frequent back-and-forth bargaining in markets where both sides continue to defend their positions amid the busy Eidul Azha rush.

On the other side of the bustling cattle markets, children can be seen accompanying their fathers, enjoying the lively atmosphere of traditional price negotiation.

Young visitors move excitedly between rows of livestock, watching the bargaining process with curiosity as families discuss prices in a vibrant and energetic setting.

The scene reflects a festive family outing, where the process of selecting sacrificial animals becomes an experience of learning and enjoyment for children, who observe the discussions, crowds, and colorful market activity that define the spirit of Eidul Azha preparations.

Social media influencers are also actively present in cattle markets, capturing videos and selfies while highlighting the lively atmosphere of traditional price negotiation.
