ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - UK High Commissioner Jane Marriott has said that Pakistan is actively strengthening its global diplomatic, economic and strategic partnerships, while bilateral trade between Pakistan and the United Kingdom has reached a record high.
Marriott said relations between Pakistan and the UK have entered a new phase of stability, economic cooperation and strategic engagement.
She noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently held an important meeting with UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, during which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
According to the British envoy, the two sides agreed to enhance collaboration in security, trade, investment and development initiatives, while the UK expressed strong interest in supporting Pakistan’s reform agenda.
Marriott said the United Kingdom remains Pakistan’s most important economic partner in Europe, with more than 200 British companies operating in the country and total British investment exceeding Rs910 billion.
She added that the UK is Pakistan’s third-largest export destination and that the continued presence of British firms reflects confidence in Pakistan’s economy.
The high commissioner further stated that bilateral trade between the two countries has risen beyond $6 billion, reaching its highest level on record.
She said British companies are making significant contributions to employment generation, technology transfer, tax revenues and export growth in Pakistan.
Marriott emphasized that the strong partnership between Pakistan and the United Kingdom is helping to promote sustainable development, investment and long-term economic stability.
