According to Iranian media reports, both leaders exchanged views on regional developments and matters related to peace and security in the region.

The meeting comes a day after Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on an official visit as part of diplomatic and mediation efforts linked to ongoing US-Iran engagement.

Security sources said the top military commander was received upon arrival by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, accompanied by Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who has been in Tehran for the past several days.

During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir is expected to hold meetings with senior Iranian officials on matters related to US-Iran talks, regional developments, bilateral cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.

US-Iran talks: Field Marshal Asim Munir reaches Tehran on official visit

The visit is being viewed as an important development in the context of diplomatic and security ties between Pakistan and Iran, particularly at a time when Iran is reportedly close to delivering its response to proposed American ceasefire initiatives amid heightened regional tensions.

Meanwhile, Mohsin Naqvi continues to hold important meetings in Tehran regarding ongoing negotiations and diplomatic contacts related to US-Iran talks.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also stated that Washington remains in “constant communication” with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, adding that senior US officials are regularly engaging with him and praising Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran.

Rubio described Pakistan’s role as “admirable” and termed Islamabad a key interlocutor in the ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Field Marshal Asim Munir had earlier visited Iran as part of Pakistan’s mediation efforts, engaging with Iranian leadership to advance discussions on ceasefire arrangements and broader negotiations between the United States and Iran.

Separately, Mohsin Naqvi has also made multiple visits to Tehran in recent days, holding repeated meetings with Abbas Araghchi focused on reviewing proposals and relaying messages between both sides as part of continued backchannel diplomacy.

The ongoing US-Iran tensions remain centered on issues including Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief and regional security concerns, while the strategic Strait of Hormuz continues to remain a key pressure point influencing diplomatic talks and global energy security.
