ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government has decided to grant a four-year extension to Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director General Fawad Asadullah Khan, according to an official statement that described the move as recognition of his professional expertise and contributions to national security.

According to the statement, the extension acknowledges his effective service and leadership at a time when intelligence and security institutions are facing increasingly complex threats and operational demands.

Fawad Asadullah Khan was appointed Director General of the Intelligence Bureau on 21st April 2022. His appointment marked a notable moment in the organisation’s history, as he became the first officer from the intelligence cadre to be promoted to Grade 22 and subsequently elevated to the post of IB chief.

Over nearly four decades, Khan has built an extensive career in operational and strategic intelligence. His professional journey spans key assignments and a long association with intelligence operations, making him one of the most experienced figures in the sector.

His service record has also earned him several national honours over the years. In 1996, he was awarded the Tamgha-e-Shujaat in recognition of his services, followed by the Sitara-e-Shujaat in 2017.

More recently, he received the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 2025 in recognition of his services during Maarka-e-Haq, further adding to a decorated career that has spanned decades in Pakistan’s intelligence and security landscape.

The Intelligence Bureau remains one of Pakistan’s key civilian intelligence agencies, playing a central role in internal security and intelligence gathering.
