(Web Desk) - A satirical online movement called the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ has gone viral on social media in India following controversial remarks by the country’s Chief Justice, sparking widespread debate among young users.
According to reports, Justice Surya Kant allegedly referred during a court hearing to some unemployed youth as “cockroaches” who attack the system and become active critics of the government on social media. He later clarified that his comments were not directed at all young people.
The statement triggered strong backlash online, with many young Indians—particularly from Generation Z—calling it offensive and reflective of broader frustrations linked to unemployment, inflation, and political polarization.
In response, a 30-year-old social media user, Abhijeet Deepke, reportedly launched the parody movement titled “Cockroach Janta Party,” a name seen as a satirical reference to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The campaign quickly gained traction, attracting millions of followers on Instagram and hundreds of thousands of online members within days. The movement has also drawn participation from some opposition figures, according to Indian media reports.
The group’s “manifesto,” described as satirical, focuses on issues such as youth unemployment, media pressure, and criticism of the political system. Observers say the trend reflects growing frustration among young people in India over limited job opportunities and rising economic pressure.
Data cited in reports suggests that while millions of graduates enter the job market annually, unemployment among educated youth remains a significant concern, further fueling public anger and online activism.
Analysts describe the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ trend as a symbol of youth discontent, blending humor, satire, and political criticism in India’s increasingly active digital space.
