Bangladesh move past India in WTC standings after Pakistan win

Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 78 runs in Sylhet, completing a 2-0 series sweep, their first at home, and moved past India to fifth in the World Test Championship standings

(Web Desk) – Bangladesh moved past India to claim fifth place in the ICC World Test Championship standings after defeating Pakistan by 78 runs in the second Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Bangladesh have moved up with a win percentage of 58.33 to India's 48.15. Pakistan have slipped down to eight place with 8.33 percent.

Pakistan’s spirited resistance on the fifth day of the second Test against Bangladesh ended in a 78-run defeat. Pakistan lost the series 2-0 – their first Test series defeat against Bangladesh in Bangladesh.

Resuming the final day on 316 for seven while chasing a challenging 437-run target, Pakistan added 42 runs before being bowled out for 358 in 97.2 overs.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers with six wickets in the second innings, while Nahid Rana bagged two wickets.

Bangladesh recorded their first-ever Test series win at home against Pakistan and achieved back-to-back series sweeps over their Asian rivals, following their 2-0 victory in Pakistan in 2024.

The triumph elevated Bangladesh to fifth place in the World Test Championship standings, with a win-loss ratio of 58.33 percent, pushing India down to sixth.

Pakistan, on the other hand, remained in eighth position after losing the second Test to Bangladesh.
