PTA issues warning on WhatsApp accounts linked to unregistered SIMs

PTA warns WhatsApp users to link accounts to active, verified SIMs to protect digital identity, chats, and contacts, advising immediate migration and biometric verification if needed.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a warning regarding WhatsApp accounts connected to inactive or unregistered SIM cards.

In a social media post, the authority emphasized that digital identity is the responsibility of the user, urging people to ensure that their WhatsApp numbers are linked to active and registered SIMs.

PTA highlighted that keeping accounts, chats, contacts, and digital identity secure required a verified mobile number. Users were advised to visit nearby franchises or customer service centers for biometric verification and SIM validation if necessary.

The authority also cautioned that if a SIM is inactive, WhatsApp accounts should be immediately migrated to a verified and active number. PTA warned against waiting for unexpected logouts, stressing that mobile numbers serve as a key part of a user’s digital identity.
