WASHINGTON (Dunya News) – The United States has described Pakistan as an important and key partner in efforts against terrorism.
Commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) Admiral Brad Cooper told a US Senate committee that Pakistan remains a reliable partner in counter-terrorism efforts and plays a key role in the fight against Islamic State – Khorasan (ISIS-K) in the region.
Briefing the committee, Admiral Cooper said the strong military partnership between Islamabad and Washington had produced concrete results against militant groups.
“These tangible and mutually successful achievements are a direct reflection of the longstanding friendship and shared commitment between Pakistan and the United States,” he said.
The CENTCOM chief added that US partners in Central Asia were also closely monitoring terrorism threats emerging from Afghanistan under the Taliban government. He noted that Afghanistan remained a major focus of Washington’s attention due to terrorist activities and regional security concerns.
He stated that Afghanistan continued to top the US monitoring list because of the persistent presence of terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory.
According to international analysts, the US commander’s remarks serve as another global acknowledgment of Pakistan’s sacrifices, operational expertise and strategic importance in the fight against terrorism.
Experts also said Admiral Cooper’s assessment reinforced Pakistan’s credibility in counter-terrorism operations while exposing terrorist networks allegedly flourishing under the influence of the Afghan Taliban.
They added that by recognizing Pakistan as a key counter-terrorism partner, the United States had acknowledged Islamabad’s frontline role in the global fight against terrorism. Analysts said CENTCOM’s assessment also validated Pakistan’s longstanding position that terrorist safe havens in Afghanistan under Taliban rule continue to pose a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
