KARACHI (Web Desk) - Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced a significant increase in Pakistan’s fisheries exports, saying overseas sales crossed $500 million for the first time.

The minister said the government achieved its annual fisheries export target of $500 million 46 days ahead of schedule during the current fiscal year.

Junaid Chaudhry stated that Pakistan’s total seafood exports were expected to reach $800 million by the end of the fiscal year.

He added that China continued to remain Pakistan’s largest seafood market.

According to the minister, fisheries exports recorded a 21.6 per cent increase during the July-December period.

He said whole fish emerged as Pakistan’s largest export category in the seafood sector.
