KPK petrol relief scheme under scrutiny as citizens receive Rs100 instead of promised Rs2,200

The petrol relief programme in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faces criticism after eligible citizens received far less than promised amid low registration and approval rates.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has come under criticism after discrepancies emerged in its petrol relief initiative for motorcycle users, with at least one citizen reportedly receiving only Rs100 instead of the promised Rs2,200.

Under the scheme, the provincial government had announced a financial support package aimed at easing fuel costs for an estimated 1.6 million motorcycle owners across the province. A total of Rs3 billion had been allocated for what was termed the “Ehsaas Motorcycle Relief” programme.

However, official documents reveal a significant gap between the announcement and implementation. So far, only 17,658 individuals have registered for the scheme. Out of these, 8,515 applicants have been approved for assistance.

Despite approvals, the disbursement remains limited, with officials confirming that more than 5,000 beneficiaries have received payments so far. In one reported case, a recipient received Rs100 instead of the expected Rs2,200, prompting further verification by authorities.

Government officials have stated that the matter is under investigation, particularly regarding the irregular payment, as questions continue to mount over the pace and scale of the programme’s rollout.
