Court reserves verdict on physical remand request in Anmol alias Pinky case

The court expressed displeasure over the investigation process and sought clarity on the initial court order

KARACHI (Dunya News) – A court in Karachi on Friday reserved its verdict on a police request seeking physical remand of alleged drug suspect Anmol alias Pinky after dramatic scenes unfolded during the hearing.

During proceedings before a judicial magistrate in Karachi South, the suspect shouted and cried in court, prompting the judge to assure her that both her and her lawyer’s stance would be heard fully and fairly.

“You should relax and breathe calmly, I will listen to your complete statement,” the judge told the suspect during the hearing.

The court was informed that the suspect had been presented in connection with FIR No. 147 registered at Baghdadi Police Station.

The suspect told the court that 20 to 25 cases were being registered against her.

“I have been picked up for 22 days. I was brought from Lahore and tortured. False cases are being made against me,” she stated in court.

Her lawyer argued that she should have been presented before the court on May 15 and had been shifted between different locations over the past 22 days.

Police told the court that seven suspects had so far been arrested during the investigation, while recoveries were being made based on the suspect’s identification of various locations. Investigators alleged that the accused was operating an organised narcotics network supplying drugs to educational institutions.

According to the investigating officer, approximately 800 contact numbers allegedly linked to drug supply activities were recovered from the suspect’s mobile phone records. Police further claimed that the network involved foreign nationals and facilitators operating in multiple cities.

The court was also informed that authorities had traced suspicious financial transactions worth millions of rupees and that several alleged riders and facilitators linked to the network were still absconding.

Police said seven arrested suspects would soon be presented before the court, while further raids and investigations were underway to trace other members of the alleged network.

The court expressed displeasure over the investigation process and sought clarity on the initial court order, questioning where it was. The IO responded that it was available in the police mobile phone, which drew further remarks from the court.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its decision on the physical remand request.
