Taliban move to legalise seizure, resale of private property

Taliban authorities in Afghanistan have introduced a law allowing seizure of residential land declared state property and its resale to citizens amid criticism

KABUL (Dunya News) - The Taliban authorities in Afghanistan are facing criticism following reports that they have introduced new legal measures allowing the seizure and resale of residential land declared as state property, according to media sources.

As per reports published by Afghan media, the new framework reportedly enables the administration to classify residential areas and housing schemes as government land, paving the way for their confiscation and subsequent resale to citizens.

It is further stated that under the reported law, previous ownership rights may be annulled, allowing authorities to re-register such properties under state control before reallocating them through resale mechanisms.

Afghan media reports also claim that thousands of acres of private land in different regions have already been taken over under the designation of state property and registered under official control.

Analysts quoted in reports argue that such measures could severely impact ordinary citizens already facing economic hardship, unemployment, and rising poverty. They suggest the policy may increase public concerns over property rights and economic stability in the country.
