GUJRANWALA (Web Desk) – An FIA special court has sentenced a father and son involved in a Libya boat tragedy case to 22 years of imprisonment each along with a fine of Rs 1.4 million each.
The verdict was announced by the judge of the Federal Investigation Agency special court.
According to prosecution, the human smugglers had taken Rs 6.2 million from two brothers to send them to Italy. Both brothers later died after their boat capsized.
The case was registered at the FIA Gujranwala police station following the tragic incident in June 2023.
Earlier reports stated that a migrant boat carrying people in Libya capsized, leaving 18 dead and 50 missing. In another development, the bodies of two victims were handed over to their families in Parachinar.
It is worth mentioning that a similar boat tragedy occurred on 5 February 2023 in Libya, in which 16 Pakistani nationals lost their lives.
