Pakistan IT exports surge as freelancers post record growth

Pakistan’s IT exports rise to $3.38 billion with 19.7% growth in ICT remittances, while freelancers achieve 51% increase, reflecting strong digital sector momentum.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s digital economy showed strong momentum as IT exports and freelance earnings recorded significant growth during the ongoing fiscal year, according to officials.
During a session of the National Assembly of Pakistan, the Ministry of IT informed lawmakers that ICT service remittances increased by 19.7 percent.
Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said Pakistan’s IT exports reached $3.38 billion in fiscal year 2025-26, up from $2.8 billion in the previous year.
The ministry also highlighted a sharp rise in freelance earnings, which climbed from $567 million to $856 million, marking a 51 percent increase.
Officials described the surge as a major milestone for Pakistan’s growing digital economy, driven by global demand for tech services and the expanding freelance workforce.
The National Assembly session, chaired by Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, also included prayers for the late mother of former Sindh governor Kamran Tessori.
Separately, lawmakers raised concerns over Pakistani nationals reportedly held by pirates in Somalia. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar assured the house that efforts are underway to ensure their safe return.
