Sharjeel Memon termed Anmol Pinky’s arrest a major success, vowed action against drug networks and said strict steps would continue to eliminate narcotics across Sindh.

KARACHI (Dunya News) -  Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the arrest of alleged drug dealer Anmol alias “Pinky” was a major success for law enforcement agencies and stressed that efforts against narcotics networks would continue across the province.

Addressing a press conference, Sharjeel Memon said the woman’s name had surfaced when he was serving as excise minister and authorities had made serious attempts to arrest her at the time, though they were unsuccessful.

He said institutions should be appreciated for arresting Anmol Pinky, adding that unnecessary sensationalism around the case should be avoided. He also rejected what he described as fabricated claims being linked to President Asif Ali Zardari.

The minister said the accused had been spreading poison in society through narcotics and emphasized that drug trafficking was a nationwide issue destroying future generations. He added that the government would continue taking action wherever such illegal activities were found.

Speaking about reports of protocol being given to the accused during her court appearance, Sharjeel Memon said two police officials had been suspended over negligence and further inquiry into the matter was underway.

He added that the accused is currently on police remand and a prosecutor has also been appointed for the case.

The senior minister further said Faryal Talpur had directed authorities to take indiscriminate action against narcotics wherever such activities are identified in Sindh.

Discussing development projects, Sharjeel Memon claimed Shahrah-e-Bhutto would be fully opened for public use within the current month, calling it a potential game changer for Karachi’s traffic problems.

He said the road would connect directly to the M-9 Motorway, while work was also underway on a new road linking Karachi Port to Qayyumabad and on a modern BRT line. Apologizing for inconvenience caused due to ongoing construction work, he said the government’s priority was early completion of major infrastructure projects.

Referring to the recent China visit by the president, Sharjeel Memon termed it an important economic achievement and said agreements had been reached to install a desalination plant in Karachi to convert seawater into drinking water.

He added that important agreements were also signed in the agriculture and livestock sectors, while Chinese leadership fondly recalled ties during the eras of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.
