LAHORE (Web Desk) - Two Pakistani women have created history in sailing by completing the first stage toward becoming international sailing judges for the first time.
Zoya Asad Ali and Mehnaz Jamil participated in the World Sailing International Seminar held in Thailand and passed the examination with impressive marks after the seminar.
It is the first time Pakistani women have completed the judges’ course in sailing. Both sailors are affiliated with the Pakistan Air Force Yacht Club.
The two Pakistani sailors will now be required to participate in three international events within four years. Their performance in international races will then be evaluated before they are awarded the status of international sailing judges.
Previously, three Pakistani sailors had served as international sailing judges. In the 1980s, late Captain Zakaullah Chaudhry and retired Khalid Mahmood Akhtar were international sailing judges.
In 1996, Captain Arshad qualified as an international judge and now serves as an international race officer. Zoya Asad Ali is the granddaughter of Captain Arshad.
