KARACHI – Police authorities in Karachi have suspended three officers of Garden Police Station after alleged drug dealer Anmol, also known as “Pinky”, was presented before a court without handcuffs and under what critics described as unusually relaxed security arrangements.
According to police officials, the action was ordered by the Karachi police chief following widespread criticism over the manner in which the suspect was escorted to the City Court. The suspended officers include Garden SHO Hanif Siyal, Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Saeed Ahmed and Senior Investigation Officer Inspector Zafar Iqbal.
Authorities also appointed the SSP South as inquiry officer to investigate the incident, with an official notification issued shortly afterwards.
Anmol alias Pinky was arrested earlier in the day in connection with narcotics-related cases. During custody, she allegedly told officials that she would soon be released. Later, she was brought to court by investigation police personnel, where scenes from her appearance quickly drew public attention.
Video clips and eyewitness accounts showed the accused walking ahead confidently while the investigating officer followed behind her and appeared to guide her through the court premises. The suspect was neither handcuffed nor surrounded by the level of security usually required under standard operating procedures for high-profile detainees.
During the court appearance, Anmol was also reportedly seen interacting casually with people present inside the court complex. She allegedly borrowed a mobile phone from her lawyer and spoke on it while waiting during proceedings. Witnesses further claimed she exchanged jokes and appeared relaxed throughout the hearing.
Police had requested a 14-day physical remand from the court but failed to secure it. Instead, the court granted initial custody of the accused. Officials confirmed that two separate cases have been registered against Anmol Pinky.
Police investigators have accused the suspect of operating a large-scale cocaine network across Pakistan. Officials described her as not only one of the country’s biggest alleged cocaine dealers but also an alleged manufacturer involved in distributing narcotics worth billions of rupees nationwide.
