LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab School Education Department has approved the establishment of summer camps in schools during the upcoming summer holidays, allowing academic activities to continue for a limited period despite the official break.
The initiative has been introduced for one month and is aimed at supporting students in completing their syllabus while schools remain closed for regular classes.
According to provincial Minister for Education Rana Sikandar Hayat, permission for summer camps will be effective from the beginning of the summer vacation period. He confirmed that the camps will operate in the early morning hours, from 7:30am to 9:30am, ensuring that academic activities are conducted before the peak of the day’s heat.
The minister stated that the decision has been taken to facilitate syllabus completion and maintain academic continuity during the extended break. He added that summer camps will be allowed from the first week of the holidays, ensuring that students do not face significant learning gaps during the closure of schools.
The Punjab Cabinet had earlier approved a three-month summer vacation for schools across the province, taking into account severe weather conditions and rising temperatures. The official holiday period has been declared until 23 August, reflecting adjustments made in response to climatic intensity and public safety considerations.
Under the newly approved arrangement, schools will temporarily reopen in a limited capacity during the holiday period specifically for summer camp sessions. These sessions will not follow the regular full-day school schedule and will remain restricted to the early morning timeframe announced by the education authorities.
In addition to the summer camp decision, the Education Department is also reviewing a proposal concerning the possible discontinuation of the weekly Saturday holiday in schools after the summer break concludes. The proposal is currently under consideration and forms part of broader discussions on academic scheduling and instructional time management across the province.
The summer camp initiative is expected to involve structured academic sessions designed to reinforce key subjects and support students in preparing for the next academic phase. Education authorities have emphasised that the arrangement is temporary and linked directly to the summer holiday period, with implementation details to be managed by individual school administrations in line with departmental guidance.
